On March 27, 2023, the Ceremony of the 30th anniversary of the establishment of the Mitsui & Co. Indonesia Scholarship Fund and the 2022 Graduation were held.
This memorative event was attended by a total of 53 people from Japan, Indonesia and Singapore, including the Embassy of Indonesia in Japan, steering committee members, and other people who cooperate with the organization on a daily basis, as well as current scholarship students living in Japan. We gathered online with KKR Hotel Tokyo to celebrate Mr. Nathaniel Sebastian Haryono and Ms. Gracia Caroline Ignatius for their gradiation.
We have been doing business in Indonesia for a long time, and Indonesia is one of our main trading countries. This Indonesian Scholarship Fund was established in 1992 with the aim of strengthening friendly relations between Japan and Indonesia, and fostering human resources who will serve as a bridge between two countries in the future. Although there were interruptions due to the Asian currency crisis and the new coronavirus, we have hired about two students every year, and have supported a total of 50 scholarship students over the past 30 years.
This scholarship fund provides financial support for a total of 5.5 years, consisting of 1.5 years at a Japanese language school, followed by 4 years at university. In 2022, there were 3,355 applicants for this scholarship fund selection, and we will determine the final two successful applicants through June.
