On October 2, 2021, the Arakawa River Clean-aid Forum (ACF), an NPO subsidized by The Mitsui & Co. Environment Fund, led a cleanup activity in the area around Kiyosuna Bridge, in Koto Ward, Tokyo. Participants joined beauty queens Miss Earth Japan and Mrs. Global Earth in the cleanup activities. The participants wore "Malibu Shirts" made from ocean waste by Mitsui Bussan I-Fashion Ltd. and military gloves made from recycled polyester by Ishikawa Meriyasu Ltd., both donated by Mitsui, in their cleanup activities. In about 1 hour, participants collected 19 45L bags of burnable trash, 4 bags of PET bottles (20L small bags), 4 bags of cans, 6 bags of glass bottles, and 19 items of large trash.

It is said that about 80% of marine litter comes from cities. Litter thrown away in cities flows into rivers via drainage ditches and eventually reaches the ocean. This cleanup activity made all participants aware of the importance of reducing the volume of litter they discard. We will continue its efforts to protect the environment by supporting the activities of NPOs.
