Launch of preparatory committee for establishment of Japan Hydrogen Association

Main Contents

Mitsui & Co., Ltd. ("Mitsui", Head Office: Tokyo, President and CEO: Tatsuo Yasunaga), with the aim of building and expanding the hydrogen economy, is joining with eight other companies to establish the Japan Hydrogen Association, a body that will work to build global alliances and develop the hydrogen supply chain. The companies have formed a preparatory committee to conduct the planning, policy formation and other activities required to establish the association while seeking the participation of a wide range of corporations and organizations.

Hydrogen is the subject of worldwide interest as an environmentally friendly, clean energy source that does not emit any greenhouse gases or environmental contaminants at time of use. The Japan Hydrogen Association will help drive the development of a hydrogen society by promoting public/private alliances and regulatory frameworks, from the perspective of addressing climate change and other environmental issues and securing geopolitically neutral energy sources. Mitsui believes that the new association will accelerate the development and competitiveness of the hydrogen industry.

Mitsui's current Medium-term Management Plan 2023 includes the goal of achieving Net-zero emissions by 2050 as part of Mitsui's Sustainability management/ESG framework.
Mitsui positions hydrogen business as one effective way to help achieve Net-zero emissions, and will work with stakeholders to develop the necessary social infrastructure and create profitable hydrogen-related businesses.
