Mitsui & Co., Ltd. ("Mitsui", Head Office: Tokyo, President and CEO: Tatsuo Yasunaga) has reached an agreement to invest in Ceva Santé Animale SA ("Ceva"), a global animal health company based in Libourne, France. Ceva is the fifth-largest company in terms of sales, specializing in research, development, production, and marketing of veterinary pharmaceutical products for both livestock and companion animals, and has established business in more than 110 countries.

The global animal health market is a market of growing importance with a scale of USD 30 billion and covering the booming protein demand, the fight against zoonotic diseases (animal diseases transmissible to humans), the increasing number of companion animals, and their life expectancy getting longer.

The market is expanding fast while becoming sophisticated at the same time, as is the case in livestock farming, which requires more efficient and safer production of protein sources, and as is true given the increased number of companion animals and specialized veterinary care needs. Under these circumstances, with R&D centers and manufacturing sites across the world, Ceva fills various needs, both in animal husbandry and for companion animals.

Mitsui considers "Nutrition and Agriculture" as an important and burgeoning industry, and we are working to establish business to support animal health from both nutritional and healthcare perspectives.

With the investment in Ceva, Mitsui will pursue synergies with a broad range of our assets and global network, and contribute to the development of animal health industry, which ultimately enables us to work for two of our key material issues– "Secure sustainable supply of essential products" and "Enhance quality of life".
